Welcome to the Scott McDonald Personal Computer Services home page. This is your one stop for markbook, reporting and timetabling software. Here at SMPCS we believe in simple to use software for schools that cost a lot less than you would expect. Generous licensing agreements with flat fees that cover all staff on a campus for a fixed cost - and allow staff to work at home are a standard feature of all software from SMPCS.

Here are SMPCS you won't find much in the way of animations or spinning images to get in the way of your time here. You may even think this site is plain and boring looking. No eye candy here. Why should you bother with such a simple site? Well there is one reason, here at SMPCS we do software and that is what we do best. Web designers who use stock images of individuals dressed in business suits smiling joyfully at their wide screen LCD displays are strictly forbidden.

So if you are looking for a website that has gloss and style this is not the place, but if want to download free trial software without a fuss then please take a few minutes to look around. Of course, if you are looking for software support please head straight over to the Q&A and Support pages of your favourite application.

The three systems we produce that you can use to make your school day a little (sometimes a lot) easier are:

We love developing software for you to use. That is what we do, and we think we're getting good at it. Here at SMPCS we've been developing software for teachers like you since 1991. And not software designed by a business guru who doesn't know what teachers need. The chief software architect has done time teaching in the classroom. (We take our hats off to all those in the classroom. Teaching young people is an important job and is at the top as one the most essential vocations around - and always remember the administration staff who help make it all possible.)

Back to the software on this site. First, there's SM-Marks 2. This is our latest application. While it is the newest, it is a reworking of the earlier markbook applications from SMPCS. SM-Marks 2 has been specially developed to run on Windows Vista and XP. But it does this while still being perfect for the older computers with Windows 98 or 2000. Are you still using a markbook that is "not supported under Windows Vista" and can't handle outcomes? Maybe it is time to switch to SM-Marks 2.

SM-Timetable is the timetabling application we do. Although this may appear to be a new application it has actually been used in the wild since 2000. A huge effort has gone into making this a unique timetabling system. Where else can you get a fully networked (using TCP/IP for solid reliability) timetable system that can generate and store a school timetable with any combination of periods and length of cycle. It can store student photographs and create a copy of the timetable to view in a web browser but costs less than one thousand dollars with no on-going licensing fees. If know of such a package with all these features that does cost less, let us know and we'll lower the licensing fee!

Lastly, there is SM-Reports (32 bit) which is our long time reporting system. It does the job it is supposed to, i.e. produce and print and outcomes based reports. SM-Reports has been around much longer and so it doesn't incorporate some of the advanced user interface features of SM-Marks 2 and SM-Timetable. But it is a very flexible system that can print almost any type of student report you can imagine.
