What are the conditions of the standard SMPCS Site Licence?

Below is the generic software licence we use. Where you see The Program, the name of the specific application is substituted. This is a simple licence, the spirit of which is that there is no limit to the number of copies you can make provided each copy is for use only by staff employed by the school. At home use is allowed and for more details see Answer 8. As is typical there are disclaimers which are important, but which we don't use as an excuse to not fix a bug if you find one.

SMPCS Site Licence

The Program is software protected by Australian and International copyright laws. As a site licence, the holder of the licence is entitled to make as many copies as required for the software to be used on the premises of the licensed institution.

By saying "as many copies as required", this means there is no upper limit to the number of copies of the program that can be installed. Provided each copy can only be used by staff of the licensed institution.

A special provision of this licence is the authorisation of staff employed by the licensed institution to install a copy of The Program on a computer in their home. Provided the copy can only be used by the staff member of the licensed institution.

Topics from the online Help can be printed for use by staff of the licensed institution.

Restrictions

Copies of the software must be for use by the holder of the licence and its employees only.

The software must not be modified, tampered with, or have the copyright and license notices changed in any way.

Of course, individuals covered by this licence are not entitled to sell, give away, or distribute the software in a way that is contrary to the intent of this licence.

Technical Support

Individuals covered by the licence are entitled to technical support of the software. By saying "technical support", Scott McDonald PC Services will provide answers to questions and when possible provide fixes to faulty software.

This technical support is free during the first twelve months after the issuing of this licence.

Limited Warranty

The Program is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied.

Although great care has been used in the production of this software and documentation, no responsibility is accepted for any errors or omissions that may occur.
