Tips

Here are some tips that will help you get started with SM-Marks 2.

PDF viewer

The help file is a PDF document, which means you need a PDF Viewer on your system to be able to use the help. Most systems will already have a suitable viewer, but if your does not, one free viewer that you can download and install is the Acrobat Reader which is available from here.

Wide screen

If you are running SM-Marks 2 on a screen with XGA or WXGA resolutions and the font used in the main window for the students names and marks is too small for comfort you can increase the size by doing this:

  1. Choose the Preferences command in the Edit menu.
  2. Click on the Appearance item in the Options section.
  3. Click on the number 10 in the Font size row of the Appearance column on the right.
  4. Enter a larger number such as 12 or 14.
  5. Click on the OK button.

Printing marks

After choosing the command in Print menu such as the Marks command you can experiment with the options on the toolbar shown on the Print Preview toolbar. For example, the "drop down list" at the right end of the toolbar allows you to set the width of the columns used for the student names. Positioning the mouse cursor over an item on the toolbar and keeping it still for a moment shows a pop-up hint with a description of the item.

Supervisor password

If you use any command that needs the Supervisor password, you can use sunshine which is the default password until you change it.

Expiry date

As a trial version of the software, the program will expire on a set date and will discontinue working.
After installation you can check the expiry date in the When does the trial expire command found in the
Help menu. If you want to continue using SM-Marks 2 after that date you should organise to
purchase a fully licensed version before then.

Tutorials

Video and audio SM-Marks 2 training is available on CD for you to playback and view. This is the same content that has been road-tested and previously presented at school training sessions, but is now available to your school for a one time fee. These are an optional extra and you can find out more by clicking here.
Is SM-Marks 2 part of the longest continually sold and supported
markbook package used extensively in schools?

While SM-Marks 2 is relatively new it is the latest update to a series of markbook programs produced by SMPCS since 1991.

Can you count on the markbook software you are currently using to be supported both now and in the future?

Other markbooks may come and go, or stop being supported and updated, but with a track record of fifteen years you can count on SM-Marks 2 to work with Windows Vista and beyond.
