This update for SM-Reports is designed to run under Windows Vista, it
also has changes that improve its operation under Windows XP.
Installing and using this update is recommended in these cases:
If
you have had any problems running SM-Reports under Windows XP or newer.
If
you have recently purchased new PCs that have Windows Vista, or staff
are purchasing new PCs for home use that include Windows Vista.
The main changes are:
SM-Reports
is a full Win32 application which means the File Open dialogue boxes
now match
other applications.
Work
files can now have long file names.and folder names are shown
in full.
Improved
help file with more detail and tips on using the program.
Compatibility
This update to SM-Reports is 100% compatible with existing copies of
SM-Reports, with one exception:
The
file names of the main SM-Reports and SM-Reports Work File program has
been changed.
This is to allow you install the new and the old versions side by side
in the same folder and switch between using either one.

The help files for both programs are now supplied as executable files.
The version of SM-Reports has identical features to the previous one,
what this means is that other than updating your program shortcuts you
can use the program exactly as before - there is no learning
or
re-training to do.
When either program is run the Title bar and Help|About
command indicate that the application is 32 bit
which lets you know it is the new version.
This
update requires a new license file. You can test this update without
the license file, but to continue using it a new license must be
purchased. See the end of this page for more details.
Update
The
file is approximately 5.0 MB and could take a few minutes to
download
over a slow Internet connection.
Making
a backup of your
current database is
recommended.
If
installing on an existing copy, be sure you know the folder
where SM-Reports is installed.
This
upgrade must be unzipped into the same folder as your existing copy of
SM-Reports. Do not unzip it to a different folder and run it
from there, as this could result in accidental overwriting of your data.
Updating SM-Reports
To update SM-Reports on your computer, do the following steps:
Copy
the
downloaded file into the folder with the SM-Reports program.
Unzip
the contents of the file Smr32upd150208b.zip
into the same folder.
To do step 2 you can use your preferred Zip file utility, or if you
have never done this before you can use the Compressed Folders feature
built into Windows to unzip the update. Here are the steps to follow:
In
the SM-Reports program folder, right click on the Smr32upd150208b.zip
file.
Choose
the Extract all command to show the Compressed
Folders Extraction wizard.
Choose
the Next button.
Check
that the Destination is your SM-Reports folder.
Choose
the Next button
Choose
the Finish button.
After
installation
To
check that the update is successfully installed, run
SM-Reports and choose the Help|About command to
confirm that the date
shown is 15th February 2008b.
In
the Help|About command check that the Title bar
shows About (32 bit) as the text.
If
you have a shortcuts to run SM-Reports you will need to make new
shortcuts to the new program files. Keeping your old shortcut and
making a new one with a different name is recommended until you are
confident with the update.
If
teachers open work files by clicking on the work file in a Windows
folder, you will need to associate files with the sda extension to the new
work file program.
This
update needs to be licensed. There is an upgrade fee for
this update, your school should have already received a fax
detailing the cost. If you have not received this, please contact SMPCS with an

If you purchased SM-Reports within the past 24 months there is a
significant discount for this upgrade.
