This update has a couple of internal changes that affects some schools. The first change about archives properly affect most schools, but the remaining items may only affect a few schools, and if they do not apply to you then no action need be taken.

Archives

If you use the File|Archive|Use command after installing the update you should:
  1. Choose the File|Archive|Use command for the first archive in the list.
Repeat step 1 for every archive you currently have. You only need to do this once for each archive. The reason for this is to copy the current set of templates into each archive. This enables you to delete no longer used templates in the current database from the Template Editor, while still keeping a copy in the archive for future re-printing of reports.

Work file backups

Some previous versions of the work file program made multiple backup copies of each opened work file. Some schools find these extra files a nuisance, while other schools like the redundancy they create for recovering from problems.

If you want the new version of the SM-Reports Work File program to make multiple backups (with file extensions of 001, 002 etc) of each work file, you should:
  1. Choose the Options|General command and turn on the Make multiple backups option and choose OK.
  2. Make sure each teacher is using the latest version of the SM-Reports Work File program

Text wrapping in Windows 2000

If you use Windows 2000 on the computer used for printing the reports, you make find the wrapping of large lines of text doesn't work at all and lines are wrapping too early in unexpected places. In this case you should:
  1. Open the SMREPORT.INI file in Notepad and look for these lines:
[Options]
Data=
Date=Released 15th August 2005.
Flags=84056068
Force=0
New=1
RestartCheck=False
System=0
The exact lines may may be slightly different, but the line to edit is the system line:
  1. Edit the system line so the number after the equals sign is 1 larger than before. For example, if it was previously 0 it becomes:
System=1
But, as another example, if it was previously two you must add one to make the number 3.
  1. Save the changes and close Notepad.
If the System line is not present it should be added to the [Options] section. These changes may require your PC administrator if you are not sure how to do this.

Work files marked as read-only

If you make a single work file for each year, which teachers then open and have a newly named copy automatically created, you should:
  1. Open the SMREPORT.INI file in Notepad and look for these lines:
[Options]
Data=
Date=Released 15th August 2005.
Flags=84056068
Force=0
New=1
RestartCheck=False
System=0
The exact lines may may be slightly different, but the line to edit is the system line:
  1. Edit the system line so the number after the equals sign is 2 larger than before. For example, if it was previously 0 it becomes:
System=2
But, as another example, if it was previously four you must add two to make the number 6.
  1. Save the changes and close Notepad.
If the System line is not present it should be added to the [Options] section. These changes may require your PC administrator if you are not sure how to do this.

Preferred name in work files

If you require the work files to only use preferred names for the students, you should:
  1. Open the SMREPORT.INI file in Notepad and look for these lines:
[Options]
Data=
Date=Released 15th August 2005.
Flags=84056068
Force=0
New=1
RestartCheck=False
System=0
The exact lines may may be slightly different, but the line to edit is the system line:
  1. Edit the system line so the number after the equals sign is 4 larger than before. For example, if it was previously 0 it becomes:
System=4
But, as another example, if it was previously two you must add four to make the number 6.
  1. Save the changes and close Notepad.
If the System line is not present it should be added to the [Options] section. These changes may require your PC administrator if you are not sure how to do this.
