I am
running the SM-Timetable database engine on a secure server, but when I
log out SM-Timetable no longer works, how can I log out of the server
and keep SM-Timetable running?
After installing SM-Timetable, the FlashFiler program is the database
engine that works with the SM-Timetable program to store and supply the
data that that the user sees on her screen. The FlashFiler program is
also supplied as a Windows Service executable to allow it to
continue running even when you log out of the network server.
Once SM-Timetable and the FlashFiler are working correctly with the
TCP/IP protocol as detailed in the Installing on a network
topic of the Introduction section of the
help, you can change over to the FlashFiler Windows Service by doing
this.
- Run
SM-Timetable and check that while FlashFiler (FFServ32.exe) is running
on the network server, that SM-Timetable (Smttable.exe) is able to
access the main database. This should be done after you have completed
all the previous steps in this topic.
- Make
sure no one is accessing the SM-Timetable database. In the main
FlashFiler window the number of connected Clients is shown and must be
zero. If not, you need to get all users logged out of SM-Timetable.
- In
FlashFiler choose the Server|Down server command and then Server|Exit.
- Run
the FlashFiler Service program with this command line:
ffsvc32 /INSTALL
The /INSTALL indicates that FFSvc32 is to install itself
as a Windows Service.
- A
pop-up message appears indicating Service installed successfully.
Choose OK to close the message.
Next
the FlashFiler Service needs to be started from the Windows Service
Administrative tool.
- Open
the Windows Control Panel.
- Open
the Administrative Tools folder.
- Run
the Services tool.
- Scroll
through the list to find the SMPCS FlashFiler item.
- Right
click on SMPCS FlashFiler and choose Start. A Service Control pop-up
appears as the service is started.
- Check
that the Status column in the Services tool shows the SMPCS FlashFiler
has started.
- Run
SM-Timetable with the shortcut that has already been made.
- Confirm
that the timetable database is still accessible.
Since the FFSvc32.exe is identical in database function to the
FFServ32.exe, if SM-Timetable is working correctly before switching to
using the FlashFiler Windows Service it should continue to do so
without a problem.
- If
you need to adjust the configuration of FFSvc32.exe you must do it
through the FFServ32.exe program.
This is necessary because even though FFSvc32.exe does not have a
graphical user interface, it reads the same configuration files as
FFServ32.exe. So this means configuring FFServ32.exe changes the
configuration of the FlashFiler Service the next time it is started.
