SM-Timetable: History

The list below describes what has been changed in SM-Timetable with each update. If your copy is not the latest, you can determine what has been added to the program by reading from the top until you reach the date shown in the Help|About command of the copy you are using now. You can also check the internal date code by pressing Shift+F1 and reading the text find box on the toolbar which shows the date in a short numeric format.

In general, when a new feature is added the date is changed, otherwise when a change enhances or fixes an existing feature the letter appended to the date is changed.

15th April 2008

Fixed the exporting of data to SAMS and corrected the "Exporting to SAMS" Help topic.
Fixed the opening of database when the folders used by server are not accessible by the client.
Fixed the making and restoring of backup files to use the TEMP folder.
Improved the importing of multiple student images to accept file names in the format of "Family, Given.jpg".
Improved the importing of the OSTUDENT.TXT file from OASIS to read the Student ID, if it is included in the file.
Added a Port option to the SMTTABLE.NET file for when the TCP address is already in use by another application.
Added the name of Sort items in folder by size command to the School view context menu.
Added the name of the Casual teacher taking a class when the Day item is viewed on the Information page with the Show detailed view option on.
Added the ability to exit the program before logging in by pressing the Esc key.
Changed the name of Sort items in folder command in the School view context menu to Sort items in folder by name.
Changed the password line for making resource bookings from the Calendar page to the main toolbar.

Fixed the action of clicking and dragging of items from the Scratchpad to the School view.

Fixed the working of Form items so the fields on the form item can be correctly filled.
Changed the look of SM-Timetable with a "make over" to give it a more modern look. The toolbars and user interface elements have been changed, but the program works the same way as before.
Changed the exporting to HTML, so now the School folder is dragged to the HTML files export item.
Changed the exporting to SAMS, so now the School folder is dragged to the SAMS export item.
Changed the Options item from the Timetable folder and moved it to the Utilities Options folder and renamed it as the Timetable item.
Changed the Tools|Advanced submenu to three submenus Tools|Timetable, Tools|Administrator and Tools|Database.
Changed the Standard and Express login can view Details page option so it is now in the Administrator item in the Utilities|Options folder.
Changed the Maintainer login can view student details on Photo page option so it is now in the Administrator item in the Utilities|Options folder.
Changed the size of the font on the Status line to 12 point. A few miscellaneous changes like this have been made for the benefit of SM-Timetable users with tired eyes.
Added the Font Size buttons to the Details toolbar.
Added the Font Size buttons to the Photo toolbar.
Added the ability to copy Form items by a click and drag between forms. See the Copying a form topic in the Forms section of the help for details.
Added the Requires different items to fill form flag to the form items. This should be set to Yes when using the Student Profile form item.
Added the Add a new page for each selected item flag to the form items. This should be set to Yes when using the Class Student Photos form item if you want to be able to have more than one class on the Information page.
Added the Go to Help topic command to Information page context menu. See the Using help topic in the Help section of the help for details.
Added the Help topic go back command to Information page context menu. See the Using help topic in the Help section of the help for details.
Added the Clear command of the Information page context menu.
Added the Tools|Advanced|Shutdown all command. See the Get exclusive access to the database topic in the How do I? section of the help for details.
Added the Help|Browse all topics command. See the Using help topic in the Help section of the help for details.
Added the Help|Tutorial command. This is just a quick way of jumping to the first tutorial in the help.
Added the ability to export the entire timetable. See the Exporting the whole timetable topic in the Exporting section of the help for details.
Added the ability to import named student photo JPEG images by selecting the Student folder and using the Import zone. See the Photo topic in the Views section of the help for details.
Added the Show Timetable page with students and teachers option to the Timetable options item. See the Options topic in the Directing SM-Timetable section of the help for details.
Added the Administrator item to the Utilities Options folder.
Improved the Help|Find text in help command to select the page with the found text.

15th January 2007

Fixes a potential fault that can cause an error message during start up.
Fixed the Casual teacher timetable on the Timetable page to correctly show the number of students in each class.
Added the Start up log item to the Utilities|Advanced folder.
Added the importing of a file named STUDENTS.TXT that has student names.
Changed the Timetable page so when the Show Detailed toolbar button is down the class name has a whole line.

Fixed potential problem of an error message when running on fast workstations using HyperThreading with an Intel CPU.
Added the Copy page to Clipboard action to Information page pop-up menu.

Added the Copy timetable to Clipboard action to Timetable page pop-up menu. See the Copy a teacher timetable into a spreadsheet? topic in the How do I section of the help for details.
Added the Copy timetable day to Clipboard action to Timetable page pop-up menu.
Added the Matrix page which shows the matrix of either the whole timetable, a single year or faculty. See the Matrix page topic in the Views section of the help for details.
Added the F3 keyboard shortcut to repeat last find action.
Changed the Information page when the Student folder is selected so the information previously shown when the Show Alternate view button is down now requires the Show Detailed view button to also be down.

1st February 2006c

Fixed the Maintainer login when not using a SMTTABLE.NET file.
Fixed the exporting to SAMS so only the standard periods are included.
Changed the terminology so the Staff login has been changed to Maintainer. This change is because the name of Staff was not informative of the purpose of the login.
Changed the terminology so the Booking login has been changed to Standard.

1st February 2006a

Fixed the Staff login when using the SMTTABLE.NET file.
Revised and corrected the steps in the Running SM-Timetable as a Windows Service part of the Installing on a network help topic.
Added the Resource folder and Calendar page. See the topics in the Booking resources section of the help for details.
Added an Export item to create files suitable for importing into SAMS. See the Exporting to SAMS topic in the Exporting section of the help for details.
Added the Select all action to the Scratchpad pop-up menu.
Improved the importing of the OSTUDENT.TXT file from OASIS to include the roll class.
Improved the printing of the Timetable page to increase the space for the Recess and Lunch rows.

Fixed the Scratchpad so it is not cleared when an item is deleted from the School view.
Fixed the Compact printing of a Teacher timetable to show more relevant information.
Fixed the Class timetable to show the number of students in the class.
Improved the Show only related action when used on a group so only the students in the visible year are shown.
Improved the Show original action so when used on a period in the Class periods folder, the class in the period is selected.
Improved the printing of the Timetable page so it now uses the margins set for the printer item.

Fixed the creation the of OASIS user reports.
Added a new "Tip of the Day" with introductory information when SM-Timetable is first used.
Changed the Make today command in the School view pop-up menu to only be accessible by the administrator.
Changed the Personal page name to be Photo page.

Added the adding of images to each teacher on the Personal page.
Added the Ctrl+F1 keyboard shortcut to search for text in the help.
Added a pop-up menu to the Information page with the Find item in School view command.

Added Compact timetable when printing button to Timetable page toolbar. See the Timetable page topic in the Views section of the help for details.

Changed the Detailed view of the day item to show teachers with Away today set to Yes. See the first topic in the Away staff section of the help for details.
Changed the terminology of the Guest login to Express login in the help.
Changed the Printer folder list to set the Windows Default printer as the selected printer item at start up.
Improved the Suggest|Class structure and Allocate|Class structure commands to make them "smarter" and fit more students to a given set of courses.
Improved the look of the Status line images when run on Windows XP.

Fixed the adding of images to each student so you do not need to first select Personal page when using the Import zone on the Scratchpad.
Added a pop-up menu to the Personal page with the Delete image command. See the Personal page topic in the View section of the help for details.
Improved the adding of pictures to each student by allowing the dragging of the bitmap onto the image area of the Personal page.

Fixed the selection of the printer to use in the Printer folder.
Fixed the copying of the Teacher folder to the Scratchpad.
Fixed the exporting of data to SM-Reports to check and allow for teachers with same family name and first initial.
Fixed the exporting of data to SM-Reports to allow for courses without a year.
Student images on the Personal page are now scaled to fit the available space.
Added the Make today command to the School view pop-up menu to make it easier to set the Day item which is today.
Added the "Tip of the day" on start up.
Added a pop-up windows on the Timetable page when a cell is clicked on to view the entire contents of a cell.
Added the Away column to the Information page for the Detailed view of the Teacher folder.

Fixed a problem when creating markbooks for SM-Marks with more than 8 classes.
Fixed the File|Exclusive access command to work in more cases.
Fixed the creation of the "guest" files when running as the Administrator.

Fixed a problem that prevented fields on the Details page from being edited when logged in under the Staff name.
Fixed a problem with the View menu commands when students are in vertically streamed courses.
Fixed the Update web browser pages command which didn't sort the students alphabetically in a class list.
Added the ability to export in a format suitable for opening in an Excel or other spreadsheet application. See the Exporting to a spreadsheet such as Excel Exporting section of the help for details.
Added the Sort class folder alphabetically option to the Timetable item. See the Timetable options topic in the Directing SM-Timetable section of the help for details.
Improved the layout on the Information page of some of the items and folders.

Fixed a problem that made it possible to copy a class list from one class to another when clicking on class items for printing.
Fixed a problem where students' classes or courses could go missing.
Fixed a problem if there are no printers installed in Windows which causes an error during start up.
Fixed a problem where it was easy to accidentally drag one class to another and copy class lists.

Added to the School view pop-up hint information about where a student or teacher is right now. See the Right now, where is... topic in the School view revisited section of the help for details.
Added the Sorting offset to the class items. See the Set the order that classes print on a timetable topic in the How do I...? section of the help for details.
Added the Sort items in folder action to the School view pop-up menu.
Added the Offset text from lines field to the printer items on the Details page. See the Printer settings topic in the Printer section of the help for details.
Added the Pixel width lines field to the printer items on the Details page. See the Printer settings topic in the Printer section of the help for details.
Improved the headings on the Timetable page to show the Day name and the day of the week.
Increased the font size of the pop-up hints.
Classes and courses are now sorted from lowest year to highest.

Fixed a problem where the program would not start if the user configuration file could not be created.
Fixed the main toolbar which didn't align correctly when used by a teacher in the read-only login.
Improved the details shown by the Error log item.

Fixed a problem where if there are more than 1000 students with a free period the Student folder timetable causes an error message.
Improved the Day timetable so a single faculty can be printed.

Fixed a printing problem on the Information page where at the bottom of a page items of a list may not fit but are not continued on the second print page.

Fixed further problems with the Suggest|Rooms for classes and Allocate|Rooms for classes commands not picking sensible rooms for each class.
